Content:
Reynold's "Revelation Space" sets the
scene for a universe-spanning adventure, if you want
to use the term.
The idea of humans (in whatever shape they may come,
enhanced with implants or not) unlocking an ancient
device, capable of ending humanity alltogether, found
drifting in space, driven by chance, their curiosity
or because they have been manipulated by alien minds
- it may not be unheard of.
Still, this novel is so dense with ideas other authors
stretch into individual novels of the same lenght, you
start asking yourself what it will all build up to.
The characters are interesting if maybe not completely
surprising, but they don't need to be. I find them credible,
as far as SF personae can be.
I had picked up this huge
version in the UK once and have just gotten round to
read it again and buy the sequels. I have to say, a
second read doesn't hurt the story a bit and it was
a great build-up to "Redemption Ark".
