DAW was founded in the early seventies by Donald A.
Wollheim, after he left ACE. The first DAW book was
published in 1972. As of June 2007, the company had
published more than 1,400 titles during its 37-year
history.
DAW is still a private company, which does count for
something in these times, when large publishing groups
tend to buy everything they can get their hands on.
The distribution cooperation with Penguin might help
in this respect.
