Founded in Berlin in 1877, by the Jewish Leopold Ullstein,
the publishing house for a long time published newspapers
and magazines in Germany, before entering the book market.
In 1910, Ullstein received a lot of attention when publishing
the series "Rote Ullstein-Bücher" for
1 Mark each.
Between 1937 and the end of the war, the Ullstein Verlag
was taken over by fascist staff and turned into a nazi
publishing house. After the war, what was left of the
company was returned to the Ullstein family.
In 1956, the enterprise was taken over by Axel Springer
and later sold to Bonnier, Sweden.
The Ullstein Buchverlage GmbH is one of the biggest
publishing groups in Germany today.
