In "Time Out Of Joint", Philip K. Dick puts the protagonist Ragle Gumm in a story line Gumm believes to be 1959 (the year the novel came out). Gumm is the long-standing champion in a gueswork newspaper puzzle contest, for which he believes to have developed a solving system.

In fact, it is 1998 already and the rest of the reality might not be what it seems to be ...

This is classic, in my opinion and it could actually be a very nice movie. Maybe they will shoot it someday when the special effects and action-craze has worn off.

If you like stories that set up alternate realities running parallel to an actual reality, this is for you.
