Stories included in this book:

Die längste Reise:
"The Longest Voyage" / 1960

A traveller from earth has been stuck on this planet for a long time, trying to find the right materials to fix his spaceship. The planet is inhabited by the descendants of human colonists. The traveller from earth wants to get back, the people he lives with want his spaceship to have more power. A third party is willing to help the traveller, but fears for the future of the whole planet. A rather sad story.

Der Barbar:
"The Barbarian" / 1956

An ancient letter from the year 175 000 BC is being found and deciphered. In it, an uncle tells his nephew about the story of "the barbarian" called Cronkheit, who came to the kingdom and caused an awful lot of trouble with his rude manners and weird way of acting. His philosophy is to completely destroy all enemy life if possible. Very stupid indeed, since the enemies are usually quite a good people to conduct trade with afterwards. Furthermore, the barbarian is a real savage when it comes to hygene and love. Whether the name which sounds the like the german word "Krankheit" (illness) is a hint towards savage germany is not clear. Not impossible though, since Anderson published the story just 11 years after WW2.

Die letzten der Befreier:
"The Last of the Deliverers" / 1958

Zeitreise:
"My Object All Sublime" / 1961

Sam Hall:
"Sam Hall" / 1953

Yes. Johnny Cash sang this song. It's not the Irish traditional.

Luzifer:
"Kyrie" / 1958

Fatale Erfüllung:
"The Fatal Fulfillment" / 1970

Versteck:
"Hiding Place" / 1961

Die Himmelsmenschen:
"The Sky People" / 1958
